::;WARNING!!WARNING!!! DUBBED ANIME RANT AHEAD!!!:::


You know I have just finished thus far watching Sonic X Subbed. Then out of curiosity I decided to check out the dubbed of the same episodes of 33-38 (Sonic Adventure2 adaptation)

...

all I can say is, 4Kids...you wound me so...



Oh my god..what the hell did you do? ~_o. I mean the first thing you notice other then the obvious deletion of certain parts not only for content but also cause I guess you think that American kids have a short attention span that you had to cut out seemingly unimportant parts that were pretty significant to the story...is the script.

Most of the 'filler' characters are ether a slightly offencive stereo type of some ethnic race, or they have a retarded sense of humor and intelligence. Lacking that they are down right rude and impassive. wtf? what became of the background characters having...personality? was that to much to think of or something? and they always seem to have some one track mind with a mission that has nothing to do with the plot (if that) at all. For Chaos sake they have the grandfather, who is very kind and nice in the Sub, yelling at Tails over a simple mistake like he's about ready to break out the wife beater shirt and beat him like a bitch. O___o;;.

Speaking of personalities...what in the name of nutty-fudge did you do to Sonic? I mean not only did you degrade him down to a inconsiderate character that has no other ideals but the grandeur of himself, you also reduced him down to a one line/punch line character that seems to have nothing more then a single track action mind. This pissed me off. Not only in the dubbed version did he not thank Amy for helping him escape prison..he also puts down Tails hurting his feeling with no little regard to this what ever. Did they even SEE the Subversion?!? THATS what he should be like! Not some self serving asshole.

This brings me to part two...In the part where he was battling one of the larger mechas I noticed a big change here. After catching hold of a ring he tries to attack the mecha. You can tell this by simple expression, I mean Sonic has all the intent to take this thing down, but inadvertently ends up over shooting it and landing instead behind it. To cover up this faux pas the dub is. "That's what I call a 'tight squeeze'!" as though he had the intent to escape from it instead. I was SUPPOSE TO be "No Way! I can't believe I missed!!" why change this?....lo and Lord that he's not perfect . Even Heroes have off days yah know... >>

Then we have the joy to around this point to be graced by the presence of Shadow \^w^/. This I had been waiting for... I was pretty much holding my breath waiting for that line, the one sentence responses that he gives that are so full of darkness and yet profound insight to his enigma like he always seems to do...

Instead I just about wept .____.

The only thing they could give him was some lame one liner that was so bluntly stupid and obvious it ticked me right off. Now they had even reduced HIM to a one punch line machine as well. I thought, "No!No!No! This is all wrong! He's always full of mature insight and dark intrigue...not this kiddy corner crap you have him saying!!" °m°;;;

Then it seems to progress on with a most horrible script and senseless meanings to the point that it bring me to my next Dub Taboo. Death.

When Chris and Shadow happen to see the shuttle bringing Sonic and co. to ARK, in the dub Shadow makes the comment to Chris. " So it looks like your friend came all the way to space to fight" or something like that, before adding "Even this is a fight he can't win" Chris gets all emotional over this and runs out of the room pretty much distressed. Why the hell?...why would he be upset about something as trivial as that? because my friend they cut out one of the Taboo lines. What he really tells Chris is "I see. So Sonic came all the way out to space...to die." This is what stirs Chris up.. But oh no we can't mention death in an anime, Chaos forbid so we must cut out every part that Shadow mentions of something/someone or even himself buying the farm. (yet you don't see kids emo over The Lion King ) Reality check Kiddo, THINGS DIE. It's natural order. Deal with it.

It's the same with what they did with Maria..they changed the plot that she, over stressed with the whole situation on ARK slipped into a coma unable to cope with it all. What a load of bull! She was killed by a uncaring and ruthless government that did'nt like the thoughts of someone else having power other then them. Sounds a lot like reality if you ask me, but lets just paint a rosy picture over that too. Let alone this completely screws the reason behind Shadows vengefulness now .

and last but not least...the BG music. What the hell is with the cartoony tunes like loony tunes music, mixed in with hard generic garage rock that has no place in that particular scene?! It completely ruins the mood asshats!.

Take for example. The Background music for the final episode for this when they are fighting Final Hazard (Biolizard) in the sub was sublime!. It made the whole thing feel fucking epic. You could almost feel yourself in the game hanging on by the edge of your seat, they even used the official music from this part of the game "Live and Learn" when it was coming down to the final crunch time. For me it brought back old memories of socking away at that damned lizard until my thumbs bled.

In the Dub...it was just some damned rock music that did'nt really fit at all and offered nothing to the scene but make it seem cheap. Even the lines for the characters one again where changed and made lame. Was "Live and Learn" so bad they had to redo everything?...people that have played this game know how it goes and will be insulted by this "revamp". All in all when the whole thing was over..the BG music they had for the whole scene over Shadows' 'demise' sucked. It was just bland and the whole scene lacked even sense of emotion as compared to it's Sub counter part. That one actually made me feel depressed as I remembered all over how dark and morbid the ending was. Once more the lines were screwed up and they made Rouge seem like a complete air head....

All in all after this little rant I have to come down to say. If you EVER have any interest in watching this anime, Please PLEASE WATCH THE SUBBED!! It's a MILLION times better then the crud 4Kids has cranked out.

The only thing 4Kids has that I like...is Shads voicing....but then the Japanese one is starting to grow on me....and I'll take content and sustenance over voices any day.
